Connecting your domain to Cloudflare is a simple and secure way to boost your website’s performance and protection. Just follow these easy steps:
Step 1: Create or Log in to Your Cloudflare Account #
If you don’t already have a Cloudflare account, visit cloudflare.com and sign up for free.
If you already have an account, simply log in to your dashboard.
Step 2: Add Your Domain to Cloudflare #
Once logged in, click “Add a Site” and enter your domain name (for example, yourdomain.com).
Cloudflare will automatically scan your existing DNS records. This may take a few moments.
Step 3: Review and Update DNS Records #
After the scan, review the DNS records Cloudflare found.
If your website uses cPanel hosting with us, you’ll need to add an A Record that points to your cPanel IP Address.
To add the A Record:
- Go to your Cloudflare dashboard.
- Navigate to the DNS tab.
- Click Add Record.
- Choose A from the dropdown menu.
- In the Name field, enter
@(this represents your root domain). - In the IPv4 address field, enter your cPanel IP Address (you can find this in your hosting account or cPanel dashboard).
- Click Save.
💡 Tip: You may also add a
wwwrecord that points to the same IP address if you want bothyourdomain.comandwww.yourdomain.comto work.
Step 4: Update Your Nameservers #
Cloudflare will provide you with two new nameservers (e.g., abby.ns.cloudflare.com and tom.ns.cloudflare.com).
To complete setup:
- Log in to your domain registrar account (where you purchased your domain).
- Find the Nameserver settings.
- Replace the current nameservers with the two provided by Cloudflare.
- Save your changes.
It can take up to 24 hours for DNS changes to fully propagate.
Step 5: Confirm Your Setup #
Once propagation is complete, return to your Cloudflare dashboard.
You’ll see a confirmation message that your domain is now active on Cloudflare. From there, you can explore performance, caching, and security settings.
What to Expect #
- Your website may take a few hours to update globally.
- During propagation, some visitors may still see your old settings temporarily.
- Cloudflare’s protection and optimization features will start working automatically once your domain is active.
